Some things become normal simply because we stop questioning them.
A holiday that leaves you exhausted. A workplace that treats your personal time as a favour. A tax you pay without knowing what you get in return. A law that makes you question whose interests it protects. A business making record profits while its workers struggle. A society that measures success by wealth, then wonders why everyone chases money.
Elephant in the Room is where I write about those questions, alongside the economics, world affairs, politics and philosophy shaping our lives. I’m particularly interested in uncomfortable issues that mainstream coverage sometimes sidesteps, and the social habits we accept because “that’s how things are.”
Most articles take around five minutes to read. Expect straightforward language, personal observations and analysis supported by evidence. Sometimes I’ll make an argument. Sometimes I’ll leave you with a question I’m still trying to answer myself.
You’re welcome to disagree. Explain why. A different perspective might reveal something I’ve missed.
